One of Our Favorite Christmas Traditions

One of our favorite Christmas Traditions is to write down the main events in our family history from the previous year.
We make sure to include Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations, Graduations, and such as the first time one of us played in an orchestra, when we bought our big Christmas tree, or when we brought home our first puppy. We include when Grandparents moved or died, anything to help us remember those who are dear to us.
We include the awards that the children won at the county fair for their sewing or baking, the bird houses that drew so many blue birds, and the year we put up our big swing set.
Some of our dearest memories are remembered in these notes. We try to be sure to write these down at least by the time that we are putting the decorations away so as not to forget memories that are important to us.
When we were first married we simply wrote these dear notes on the cardboard box flap of the boxes in which we kept our Christmas decorations. We now have a beautiful Christmas diary fully upholstered by our daughter. She covered a regular sewn composition notebook in green velvet (from one of her old Christmas dresses) and added pictures from old Christmas cards, ribbon and faux jewelry.
She made a title page using fancy writing in her own hand and recopied each of the entries from the boxes to their own places in the notebook. We are leaving space for future picture additions as well. Special Christmas cards are beautiful additions, too. Needless to say this is one of our dearest Christmas treasures.
